If you’ve been following me for really any time now you know big I am on maintaining moisture for my hair. You also know how much I love deep conditioning. In my opinion, a great conditioner or deep conditioner is one that not only adds moisture to your hair but aids in detangling. Just think about it, you’ve just washed (or co-washed) your hair, the first thing you’re going to do after adding conditioner is to comb through to distribute the product and detangle. If that product isn’t making detangling easier, what’s the point? Like any other product, some conditioners are ineffective, some are good, and then there are those that are great. Here are my favorite 5 conditioners that melt tangles away and are amazing for moisture:

Miss Jessie’s Rapid Recovery Treatment

Of all the deep conditioners I’ve tried to date, the Rapid Recovery Treatment from Miss Jessie’s is probably my absolute favorite. As conditioners go, it’s thick and creamy yet offers sufficient slip, it brings your curls back to life almost immediately, and it smells amazing. What more could a naturalista ask for? The product honestly delivers fantastically on its name and its claims. It’s offered at 8 oz for $14 and 16 oz for $24, which I know is pricey compared to other deep conditioners on the market but it’s so worth it. I don’t use it every week because of the expense but if my hair is feeling particularly dry it’s my go to deep conditioner. A little goes a long way and if your hair is in need of some TLC, this deep conditioner might be perfect for you.

SoapBox Coconut Conditioner

Oddly enough I received the SoapBox Coconut Shampoo & Conditioner in a VoxBox from Influenster a while back. It was my first time ever hearing about the brand but I really enjoyed both products. The conditioner, however, is the standout product. It’s creamy and offers an amazing about of slip. I’ve used it as both a regular conditioner and a deep conditioner and have loved the results. It also has a light coconut scent that isn’t too overwhelming. The cherry on top of all this goodness is that the largest size of this product retails at a whopping $6.99 for 16 oz! Nothing beats when quality meets budget friendly.

Silicon Mix Nutritive Hair Treatment

This is one conditioner I feel is not very well known or maybe just not mainstream. I usually only hear about it for reviving bundles that are on life support, and if that’s any indication, one can only imagine the life it can bring to your real hair! It’s dubbed the “Dominican stuff,” but I’ve yet to confirm whether or not this brand is indeed popular among Dominicans. Can anyone speak to this? Let me know in the comments. Anyway, my hair absolutely loves this conditioner. It has great slip which is essential for detangling, a light and pleasant fragrance, and has your curls poppin’ almost instantly. Since you get a good size for a decent price, I deep condition with the Silicon Mix Nutritive Hair Treatment regularly. Paired with the brand’s leave-in conditioner, you are sure to lock in some major moisture.

TGIN’s Honey Hair Mask

I don’t know if there’s a natural out there who doesn’t know about the greatness that is the honey hair mask. Not only does it smell AMAZING, it does an excellent job of imparting moisture to dry hair. I know I just mentioned how amazing this deep conditioner smells but I have to tell you it literally smells like something you can eat. Personally, I do find it to be expensive ($14.99-17.99) relative to many other hair masks on the market, but sometimes it’s worth it to have a product you know you can count on to deliver the results you need. Because of the price, I don’t use it as often as I would like, but if my hair is even super dry or tangled, it’s definitely one of my go to products.

DevaCurl One Condition Decadence Conditioner

Although I’ve heard of DevaCurl for some years now, I had never really used the products until I received my first DevaCut in March 2017. The stylist used several Devacurl products to wash and style my hair and luckily I took a sneak peek while there. I noticed days after I got my cut that without adding any product to my hair, it was just as soft and moisturized as day 1. As soon as I realized this I knew I had to get the products for myself.

Devacurl KT

The One Condition Decadence Conditioner is the absolute truth! I love the clean scent, it’s incredibly gentle, it has great slip and leaves your hair feeling like freshly picked organic cotton. Does organic cotton exist? I won’t lie, the DevaCurl products are not easy on the wallet, but they work so incredibly well. Even though this is a ‘regular conditioner’, I like to use it as a deep conditioner by leaving it in for 30 minutes with heat. The results are curl shattering…in a good way of course. When they say “ultra moisturizing,” they ain’t lyin’! This is easily one of the best conditioners I’ve ever used, and I’ve used a lot of damn conditioners.

  1. I was just laughing with my husband about how, when you research hair products and spend a little extra money, those products ACTUALLY work! Okay, so I was laughing, he was humoring me. But I’m definitely going to check these out. Hair conditioners are really important for me (super color treated hair), so this is a great list to keep in my back pocket. Thanks!

    1. You are 100%. And I am color treated as well so I totally understand that moisture struggle. Hopefully this list can introduce you to something you love!
