7 Perfect Locations For Your Next Girl’s Trip

Girls Trip Locations KT

By now you have to be living under a rock if you haven’t heard of or seen the new box office hit, Girls Trip, featuring Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tiffany Haddish, and Regina Hall. The movie is hilarious from start to finish and centers around a group of college friends who reunite on a girls trip to the Essence Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana. You can only imagine the debauchery that ensued. Now I won’t ruin the movie for you, but let’s just say that by the time the movie was over, everyone wanted to plan a girls trip of their own. There is some important criteria necessary for an epic girl’s trip such as easy on the wallet, good looking men, lots of activities, good looking men, good food, good looking men, and a great location. Oh, did I mention good looking men? I love that this movie has inspired so many women to plan a girls trip but I also know people often talk about traveling and for whatever reason never go. To help jumpstart your planning, here’s a list of 7 perfect locations for your next girls trip:

Cuba

If you know me, you know that I’ve been obsessed with Cuba all of my life. It’s why I went twice in 6 months and still feel like I’ve barely been. But my personal obsession with Cuba is not the reason I put it on this list. It’s such a great location for a girl’s trip because it’s cheap, full of culture, and a variety of things to do. The island nation has so much variety between the different major cities that it’s impossible for your crew to run out of things to do. You can enjoy a relaxing day at an amazing beach in Varadero, snorkel in the Bay of Pigs, roll cigars in Viñales, and dance the night away in the streets of Habana. Despite what you may read on the internet, Cuba isn’t difficult to get to, it doesn’t have to be expensive, and there is amazing food.

Colombia

Colombia is the only place on this list that I haven’t personally been to, yet, but it’s high on my priority list of places to visit asap. You may be wondering how and why I’m including it. The answer to that is I have so many friends who’ve gone recently and they all loved it. Numero uno, Colombia is incredibly cheap both after conversion and the cost of goods. I’ve heard that the partying is excellent, the food is mind blowing. Like some of the other places on this list, Colombia has several ‘popular’ cities that have a lot to offer such as Medellin, Cartegena, and Bogotá. I know one activity high on my Colombia “to-do” list is the mud bath at the Totumo Mud Volcano in Cartagena. If you’re a fan of massages or skin treatments, imagine you and your girls lounging in a warm mud bath. Sounds like fun right?

Martinique

I’ve been to the beautiful island of Martinique twice and absolutely loved it. It isn’t necessarily a cheap location due to them using the Euro, but it sure is beautiful. Your crew can spend a day exploring the island, visit the waterfall, spend a day on the sea with an all-inclusive catamaran, visit the ruins, or swim with the turtles at any one of the picturesque beaches. You can even visit Barack Obama street or the restaurant named after him there! Another thing I love about going to Martinique for a girl’s trip is that it has a few neighboring islands that would be perfect for a day or overnight trip on your vacation. Imagine having the opportunity to amp up your trip by visiting another country to the day. Choose from a number of islands including Guadeloupe, Dominica, or St. Lucia.

Jamaica

What kind of list would this be without Jamaica on it? If you can visit Jamaica and not have a great time, I’d wonder if you were feeling ok. One thing that can be great for a girl’s trip is an all-inclusive hotel and Jamaica has tons of those. All-inclusives generally take away from some of the stress of planning and money because so much is available and included in your rate at the hotel, including many activities. Just about anything else you may be interested in can be organized through your hotel. There are so many things you can do in Jamaica such as test your dance skills at a dancehall, eat, play at the beach, a museum, or a tour.

South Africa

South Africa is such a beautiful country and experience. Like just about all of the other places on this list, there is no shortage of things to do. Between Johannesburg and Capetown there’s Robben’s Island, The Cape of Good Hope, Table Mountain, walking tours in Soweto, museums, safaris, nightlife, Boulder’s Beach, great food, wineries, and endless rich culture.

The conversion is definitely in your favor from USD to the South African Rand so you and your girls can ball out a bit while having a great time. There’s truly something for everyone in South Africa, for those who love to turn up, to eat through cities, take in nature, learn some history or just relax. There is even an Essence Festival in Durban now that takes place in November for anyone down to recreate the movie in South Africa!

Las Vegas

I feel like I shouldn’t have to say much for this one. Las Vegas offers great weather, gambling (if you’re into that), copious amounts of alcohol, shows, clubs, I mean the list goes on and on. You’ll never run out of things to do and trouble to get into here and that makes for a girls trip that’ll go down in history. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas right?

An Event

I realize that ‘an event’ isn’t an actual location but work with me here. I mentioned at the top of this post how in the Girls Trip movie, the “Flossy Possy” reunited at the Essence Festival. You can do the same thing! Select an annual event that you love or maybe an event in a place you’ve always wanted to go. Planning a trip around an event is great because it’s insta-itinerary, you’ll already have things to do! Some ideas are concerts, food festivals, music festivals (SXSW, Made in America, etc), cultural Carnivals (Trinidad, Brazil, Barbados, Jamaica), or travel events such as Yacht Week (Croatia, East Africa, etc) or even Diner en Blanc in a new city or country. These types of events aren’t necessarily cheap (in fact they’re usually the opposite)

So that’s my list of recommended locations for your next girls trip! Where did you go on your last girls trip? Where do you want to go on your next girls trip? Have you seen the movie yet? If you say no, I’m judging you. Which character are you most like? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Vegas is always at the top of my list but these other options are also great! I would have never thought of some of them.

  2. I have not seen this movie yet I will have to watch some day I really like Queen Latifah. As far as a girls trip I can only wish I have never taken one but I most certainly would not mind if the opportunity presented itself.

  3. OMG! You mentioned my birthplace MARTINIQUE! ok, sorry about that, I just get really excited when people say they’ve been there! Loved this list, and I would say that my number one on my travel bucket list is South Africa. I have tons of friends that I’ve known for years that are from SA. Unfortunately, most of my friends are unable to go on girl trips, but I have friends everywhere so it might not be a girl trip from getting on the plane to leaving together, but it can be a girl trip when I visit them! Thanks for the great tips, and I loved your pictures.

    1. I just did a little dance hearing you are from Martinique! I love it there!! LOVE LOVE LOVE! You’d love South Africa. Yes you pick up and go meet them, you never know who you’ll meet along the way.
