Blogger Recognition Award

Blogger Award

While chillaxing over this past weekend in the Philippines I realized I had a message on my facebook blog page saying that my blog was selected for the Blogger Recognition Award! Color me surprised! I never get ‘chose’ or selected for anything really so I was truly surprised and thankful. I am approaching my 1 year anniversary with this blog and if I’m honest, it’s been a lot more frustrating than I ever anticipated as far as getting support and getting noticed. This award is confirmation and a reason to keep pushing–it’s only up from here! I’d like to thank Tanya of A Mundane World so much for the nomination.

How My Blog Got Started

Why I started blogging - Kingteeuhh

I wish I had a more flowery, feel good story for how my blog got started but it’s pretty basic. To put it simply, I hate answering the same questions over and over again. I figured a blog would be a great way to have information in once place that I could refer people to. Despite having a super simple reason for starting my blog, it does come with other ‘benefits’ and reasons for why it works for me. Some of the other benefits include being having record events, growth, etc, the possibility to generate income, and having an outlet to share my talents and thoughts. Some of you know I have had a youtube channel for a little while now but I relaunched it in the midst of working a full-time job and being a full-time grad student. It quickly became too much to keep up with, but blogging takes a lot less time and effort than producing a youtube video. I thought having a blog would be a great fit to tie my brand together and be able to offer a variety of content that fits with my lifestyle at a given time.

Small Pieces of Advice to Other Bloggers

If I were to give three (because I’m just extra like that sometimes) small pieces of advice to other bloggers it would be:

Just Do It

I’ve gotten questions from a number of women over the last couple years about how to get started with either blogging or youtube and my first answer is always to just do it. It’ll never be perfect to get started and it doesn’t have to be. Set a hard date for yourself and make it happen. Your blog is a living, breathing thing. Ok not really, but you get what I’m saying. My point is, your blog/youtube will be in a perpetual state of growth and change if you’re doing it right. So you shouldn’t feel like you have to check a million boxes before you get started. That feeling that it needs to be perfect first is just an excuse to keep putting it off and not do it.

Be Consistent

Blog Tips Consistency KT

Being consistent is easier said than done. I’m saying this as someone who launched my own blog in the middle of going to grad school full-time and working a full-time job. It’s not easy to keep up with especially when your life is already, well, full. The great thing about consistency is that it’s relative. Don’t bite off more than you can be consistent with. While I was in school I felt the most I could stay consistent with was one post a week (and truthfully even that was a lot). There were times I fell short but for the most part, once I set that goal for myself, I kept to it and even exceeded it at times.

Be You

If I’m honest I hate this one because it’s incredibly cliché and corny, but it’s true. You have to be you…all the time. Through every post. Through your design, your logo, your branding–everything. People can tell when you’re trying to be something or someone you’re not. Trust me, I understand the pressure to ‘blow up’ in this blogging game and the sense in essentially not reinventing the wheel by following those best in class. You just have to be careful to not lose yourself in the process. In a sea of sameness, it’s you that’ll make your blog stand out. YOU are the special sauce. This is really annoying to hear when you’re risking it all and giving your blog everything you’ve got only to get to get what feels like views and no support. But know that “if you build it, they will come,” even if it isn’t on your time.

  1. Congratulations on your nomination, and your blog advice is so on point! I only post 3 times a month, which is definitely on the low side, but I know I can be consistent with that schedule and not sacrifice the quality of my posts.

Happy Almost 1-Year Blogiversary!!!My one-year blog anniversary is coming up in September. I’m excited about surviving this first year, but it has definitely been a struggle, especially when it comes to getting noticed.

    1. I definitely know what you mean. When I was in school all I could commit to was once a week. Even though it didn’t feel like enough (Re:compared to others) but like you said, it was something I knew I could be consistent with without sacrificing quality.

Happy almost 1 year to you as well! Mine is in August. Still trying to think of how to celebrate. I hope you have something special planned as well! OMG and totally agree in regards to it being a struggle getting noticed. Sometimes I wonder if it’s just me!

  2. Congratulations on your blogging award! 🙂 It’s awesome that you can keep up with a blog even once a week, with all that is on your plate! I have a full-time job too, but I don’t go to school anymore…and sometimes it’s a LOT even for me! I can only imagine how it is for you! You’re awesome for being able to keep up with this blog, go to work full-time and go to grad school!

    1. Thank you. I thought it’d get easier now that I’m finished with school but I can’t say it has! blogging is definitely a lot of work!

  3. Congratulations on the nomination and I think it’s soo great that this award forces to recognize other bloggers and also encourages readers to check out other people.
